Behavior problems can involve almost anything. Applying behavior principles to the situation can help in addressing whatever the problem looks like.
 
The problem could be:
•  Aggression (hitting, kicking, biting)
•  Non-compliance (refusal, doing nothing)
•  Many others
 
Our main goal is to help you come up with a plan and a toolbox of techniques you can use.
Our Tools
Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA):
A Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) looks at behavior in a very systematic and scientific way. The purpose is to find out what is the “function” of the behavior. It generally falls into four broad categories: attention, escape, tangible, or sensory.
 
A FBA may include some or all of the following: operational definition of the target or problem behavior; a historical analysis; parent, teacher, and student interview; record review; Antecedent Behavior Consequence data collection; functional analysis; and individual’s strengths.
 
As a result of the assessment, you will receive a summary of the assessment components, recommendations for antecedent interventions, areas in need of skill acquisition, reinforcement procedures, consequence interventions, and evaluation procedures.
 
The whole process from start to finish can take over 20 hours. Depending upon the components, the functional behavior assessment is finished in about a month (start to finish).

Behavior Consultation Report:
Similar to a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA), the Behavior Consultation Report is full of recommendations and outlines a plan of action. It is more similar to a Behavior Intervention Plan. Spanning a short amount of time, this report may be based upon an observation of the individual and an interview. The function of an individuals’ behavior is still considered an important component of this report, but may be derived from more indirect and less intensive methods than in a FBA.

Verbal Behavior Milestone Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP)
The VB-MAPP is a criterion-referenced assessment tool, curriculum guide, and skill tracking system that is designed for children with autism, and other individuals who demonstrate language delays. There are five components of the VB-MAPP, and collectively they provide a baseline level of performance, a direction for intervention, a system for tracking skill acquisition, a tool for outcome measures and other language research projects, and a framework for curriculum planning. Each of the skills in the VB-MAPP is not only measurable and developmentally balanced, but they are balanced across the verbal operants and other related skills.
 
Assessment of Functional Living Skills (The AFLS™)
The Assessment of Functional Living Skills (The AFLS™) is an assessment, skills tracking system, and curriculum guide for the development of essential skills for achieving independence. It contains a task analysis for many skills essential for participation in a wide range of family, school, community, and work environments.
 
Assessment of Basic Language Learning Skills (ABLLS)
Incorporating a knowledge of Verbal Behavior (Skinner) and the acquisition of language, Drs. Partington & Sundberg created the Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (The ABLLS-R). It is an assessment, curriculum guide, and skills tracking system for children with language delays. The ABLLS-R contains a task analysis of the many skills necessary to communicate successfully and to learn from everyday experiences. It covers a variety of areas including mands, tacts, intraverbals, receptive language, self-help, fine motor and gross motor skills. The assessment would take place in your home, preferably using objects your child has already interacted with. The goal is to discover what your child already knows and what he/she needs to learn.
